History: The Nigerian Army Welfare Insurance Scheme (NAWIS) is one of the NA's welfare schemes established to meet the yearnings and aspirations of NA personnel. It is a registered Limited By Guarantee Company under the Companies and Allied Matters Decree 1990. The scheme commenced operations in January 1988. It was established with the aim of providing immediate succour to all NA personnel and their families on event of death, retirement or discharge from active service.
Structure: The Scheme operates side by side with the Benevolent Fund (Benfund) and the management is headed by the Managing Director. The Chairman of the Board of Directors (BOD) of NAWIS is the Group Managing Director (GMD), Nigerian Army Welfare Limited By /Guarantee (NAWLG). The Board makes policies and guidelines for implementation by the management of NAWIS.
